Christina Beskou was
born in Athens and at the age of twelve she began attending ballet
lessons at the school of Nelly's Mazloum Calvo, graduating in 1975. She
continued her studies at the Royal Academy of dance, taking her degree in 1979.
In the third year of her studies at the Academy she met the Hungarian-born
Maria Fay, a prominent ballet teacher and former dancer, who developed and
established a unique programme of barre à
terre known as Maria Fay's Floor-Barre System. This was a landmark
acquaintance, which continues until today. Christina
began dancing professionally in the early 80s, taking part in
various dance groups around the world. In the summer of 1989, she was invited
by Paquito d' Rivera to present her own choreography during his concert at
the Lykavittos theatre, which had been inspired by his own original piece with
the name "Seresta".
This
was a milestone in her career, as it resulted in the opportunity to set up her
own group the following year: the Seresta Dance Company. Since then a number of
performances have been presented in Greece and abroad, while Christina goes
forward dancing, choreographing and teaching, and preparing the new generation
of her group.
